Milk production in Wisconsin during June 2023 totaled 2.70 billion pounds, up 1 percent from the previous June according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report.

The average number of milk cows during June, at 1.27 million head, was unchanged from last month but down 2,000 from June 2022. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,125 pounds, up 25 pounds from last June.

Taking a look at the 24 major milk producing states, production during June totaled 18.1 billion pounds, up 0.2 percent from June 2022. May revised production, at 19.0 billion pounds, was up 0.9 percent from May 2022. The May revision represented an increase of 16 million pounds or less than 0.1 percent from last month’s preliminary production estimate.

Milk production in the United States during the April – June quarter totaled 58.0 billion pounds, up 0.3 percent from the April – June quarter last year.

Monthly production per cow in the 24 major States averaged 2,028 pounds for June, 1 pound above June 2022.

The number of milk cows on farms in the 24 major States was 8.93 million head, 14,000 head more than June 2022, but 20,000 head less than May 2023. The average number of milk cows in the United States during the quarter was 9.42 million head, 8,000 head less than the January – March quarter, but 8,000 head more than the same period last year.
