Dairy co-operative Norco is not one to shy from innovation or a challenge, from the devastation of the Lismore floods last year, to being a founding partner in precision fermentation cows milk start-up Eden Brew.

So, with more than a century of expertise in the realm fresh cow dairy milk, Norco has launched its first foray into the alternative milk market with chilled products – Norco P2 Pea Protein and Oat Mylks.

Norco’s P2 Pea Protein Mylk is a plant-based milk alternative with the same protein, calcium, and creaminess as full cream dairy milk.

Designed to deliver the dairy benefits that other plant milks lack, Norco says it is free from gluten, soy, nuts, and lactose, and delivers a “nutritional punch” of 8.3 grams of protein and lower sugar content per serve than full cream dairy milk.

Norco’s general manager Commercial and Strategy, Ben Menzies, said the increasing popularity of plant-based diets and consumers buying both dairy and non-dairy products didn’t benefit Australian farmers.

“We know that more than 10 per cent of consumers avoid dairy as a result of various dietary constraints and over a third of Norco’s customers also shop for alternative milks.

“With that in mind, our plant based mylks offer a point of difference by introducing a fresh product, packed with plant nutrition, while also supporting a 100% farmer owned Australian co-operative.” Menzies said.

“It’s got a creamy, sweet, and subtle flavour which makes it incredibly versatile. It’s great for making nutritionally boosted smoothies, overnight oats, pancakes, and your favourite baking recipes. Even savoury dishes like quiches, mashed potatoes, creamy soups, and lunchbox favourites like savoury muffins work a treat,” Barnes said.

She said Norco’s Oat Mylk has a similar creamy, delicious, and milky taste as P2 Pea Protein, but is oat based, high in calcium, and low in sugar.

Menzies said: “We’ve been making award-winning dairy for 128 years, so we know a thing or two about how award-winning milk should taste. Because no matter how it’s made – or what it’s made from – we want to give Aussie milk-lovers the milk they deserve, even when it doesn’t contain a drop of dairy,” Ben concluded.

Norco P2 Pea Protein and Oat Mylks are available in one litre bottles in the dairy fridge at select Woolworths across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria with an RRP of $5.50.
