Dairy farmers | Russian, Iranian agriculture ministers to discuss exports of Russian grain

The two sides also plan to discuss the exports of granulated beet-chips.

Russian Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachov holds talks with Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati as part of a visit to Teheran on Tuesday. The two sides are expected to discuss trade cooperation.

Officials at the Russian Agriculture Ministry said earlier Moscow is hopeful as regards an increase of exports of a broad spectrum of farm produce but especially grain, poultry, beef, mutton, and sugar.

The two sides also plan to discuss the exports of granulated beet-chips.

One of the items on the agenda is an increase of exports of Iranian vegetables to Russia.

Apart from Alexander Tkachov, other officials from the Agriculture Ministry and the federal agricultural watchdog agency Rosselkhoznadzor will take part in the talks.

Russian representatives have said on a number of occasions this country is eyeing a broader trade in farm produce with Iran. Rosselkhoznadzor director Sergei Dankvert said on December 23 supplies of Russian poultry to Iran would begin after January 20 and supplies of dairy products, after February 15.

Iran exports a range of fruit and vegetables to Russia. Last November, Rosselkhoznadzor entered 25 Iranian companies in the register of foodstuff suppliers.

Apart from trade in dairy and cattle breeding products, Moscow and Teheran are setting up the enterprises that will commercialize various biotechnologies.

On January 16, the International Atomic Energy Agency published a report confirming that Iran has fulfilled its obligations under the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which marked the first step towards the implementation of the nuclear agreement.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said right after that the day of full implementation of the joint action plan had come and all the sanctions against Iran had been lifted.
