After a mahapanchayat on Sunday, the members of the maldhari community (pastoral community) announced that it will stop the supply of milk on september 21 (Wednesday) as a mark of protest against The Guijarat Cattle Control (Keeping and Moving) in Urban Areas Bili, 2022.
On Monday, Gujarat governor Acharya Dewrat sent back the bill to the state government. But concerns on the availability of milk were fuelled on Tuesday after a message by an online grocery store to its customers spread in the state.
“This is to inform you that due to the milk strake tomorrow (september 21)across Gujarat, we will not be able to delivery only milk ordersin a few locations in the city for tomorrow. All other grocdery orders will be delivered”, read the message from the online store.
Officials of the Guajarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) and its member unions who sell dairy productsunder brand name Amul said that their supply chain has not been impacted.
“Our supply chain is fully under control. Our distribution is directly from the plant and we have not seen any impact”, said a GCMMF official, adding that there is no need for consumers to panic.
“Our milk supply and everythinng in going as per normal schedule. The everningdispatches on Tuesday were also normal” he said. Baroda Dairy´s vice-chairman.
