Why milk and saffron?

Milk and saffron are often used in several Hindu rituals, especially milk is considered auspicious and this is another reason why milk blend is consumed on the first night of marriage. First night

Since ages Saffron has been considered as an aphrodisiac and mixing it with Tryptophan-rich milk improves the vitality and helps in de-stressing the newly-wed couple. Scientifically, it has been established that saffron has great antioxidant properties, which are great for uplifting the mood, improving mental health, reducing anxiety and helps in reducing early signs of depression when consumed regularly. However, the logic behind drinking this blend on the first night is to begin a conjugal life on a relaxed and happy note.

Origin of this ritual?

As per ancient scriptures, the concept of drinking milk blend was introduced in the Kama Sutra, it was believed that sipping on some blends before lovemaking improved the stamina and increases sexual enery. However, back then there were different types of additions to a glass of milk such as fennel juice, honey, sugar, turmeric, pepper and saffron, which made way to this prominent Hindu wedding custom. Over the years, the addition of ingredients may have changed depending on the diversity, but the tradition still exists.

Milk production usually declines by 15 per cent in the state during summers.
