By unlawfully raising the price of milk by Rs20 per liter, the unchecked dairy mafia has dealt another blow to the public, which is already in shock over the rogue inflation.

This unscrupulous hike has sent the cost of milk to an alarming Rs230 per liter in the metropolitan city.

Despite the official price set at Rs180, the city administration and the Sindh government have failed miserably in enforcing it, resulting in a staggering Rs50 per liter difference between the official and dairy mafia’s prices.

Utilising their position of influence, the dairy mafia sells five million litres of milk each day for a profit of Rs50, totaling a staggering Rs250 million. The milk sector in Karachi has changed into a “river of wealth,” with both the city government and the dairy mafia jumping right into this lucrative endeavour.

Iqbal Memon, the commissioner for Karachi, oddly seems to be oblivious of this circumstance.

In response, he gave the milk merchants a strong warning, reiterating that they would not be permitted to boost the price of the good at will.

Memon noted that the dairy producers’ insufficient argument for the per-litre price rise was lacking in substance. As a result, he said that any violators would face raids and that the government would not put up with such arbitrary hikes.

Disagreeing with the dairy farmers’ claim that their production costs had risen, Memon stated that the administration would only engage in discussions with them if they sold milk at the officially prescribed rates.
