Milk added to MDM to improve nutritional intake of students

The mid-day meal cell has started an additional provision of milk in eight schools across the city in an effort to improve the nutritional intake of students. Currently implemented as a CSR initiative, this scheme benefits more than 3,000 students.

Under this programme, each student is provided with 200 ml of milk after their morning prayer session.

The initiative, which began in February, is now in the trial phase and has been implemented in schools located in the urban areas of the city. MDM officials said they have plans to expand this scheme to other schools as well with the support of various companies.

District superintendent of education, Mithilesh Kerketta, said, “This initiative could significantly improve children’s nutrition, prompting its extension to other schools. Recognizing the role of proper nutrition in academic performance and overall well-being of students, we have plans to extend the programme to more schools in the near future.”
