Goa Dairy
Two Goa Dairy BoDs hurt, quit posts

The Goa Dairy is always in the news for wrong reasons and this time two of its board of directors have resigned after six months, saying that their suggestions to improve the Dairy fell  on deaf ears.

Madhav Sahakari and Anup Desai, both former Dairy Chairmen have quit from their posts lamenting that their suggestions to bring an improvement into the affairs of the Goa Dairy were not taken into consideration.

Anup Desai said after his re-election he suggested several measures for the betterment of the financial condition of Goa Dairy but his pleas fell on deaf ears. During last six months, there was no opposition and he cooperated with the Board. Despite this there was no improvement in the working of Goa Dairy and the  financial condition continued to deteriorate with debt amounting to Rs nine crore which was yet to be cleared.

According to Desai, his proposals to either close down or to hand over the cattle feed plant to a private establishment as it was a  white elephant causing colossal losses to the Dairy, was shot down.

He said that if there is no improvement in the Dairy, then there is no point in continuing in office.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Goa Dairy Chairman Rajesh Phaldessai refuted allegations made by Desai and Sahakari. He said Goa Dairy affairs are run by taking all into confidence and that both – Desai and Sahakari had fully cooperated and advised Goa Dairy Board.

Phaldessai said that their resignations have not yet been accepted and it will be decided in the Goa Dairy Board meeting, to be convened soon.

According to Phaldessai, after taking over the charge from Administration, the sale of Goa Dairy milk had reached from 40,000 litres per day to 57,000 litres per day. He also clarified that it was not possible to handover cattle feed plant to a private firm for its operation because Goa Dairy has signed with the government lease agreement of 99 years for cattle feed plant operation.

He said Goa Dairy need some more time to bring it on right track.

He said after milk prices were hiked, the cattle feed plant stood benefitted from it.

The initial launch by Amul will only be for fluid milk brands, with Amul milk being available in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Washington, Texas and Dallas.
